Frequently Asked Questions
Dermal Fillers
What is filler?
Facial fillers are made from hyaluronic acid. The use of fillers can eliminate wrinkles, plump and hydrate lips, replace soft-tissue volume loss, raise scar depressions, and volumise creases and folds of the face.
As we age, our skin becomes more susceptible to wrinkles and fine lines, especially due to sun damage and muscle movement. Facial fillers provide a solution to such damage through facial injections.
When will I see results?
Results are visible immediately after your treatment. The healing process then begins which involves swelling for about 3-7 days depending on the area and amount injected and how your body reacts to the procedure.
The product then settles and you’ll enjoy your final results about 2-3 weeks after treatment. Please give yourself a minimum of 2 weeks before any events or holidays in case of residual bruising and swelling.
How long do results last?
Longevity differs from person to person and from treatment to treatment. Because the product is being injected into the body, some bodies may metabolize the product faster than others. See below for average longevity based on treatment:
- Cheek Filler: 9-18 months
- Lip Filler: 6-12 months
- Lower Face Filler: 9-18 months
- Jawline Filler: 9-18 months
- Chin Augmentation: 9-18 months
- Nasolabial Fold (Smile/Laugh Lines) Filler: 6-12 months
How may treatments will I need?
Facial fillers are a temporary solution, and therefore to maintain results, treatments will need to be administered on a recurring basis or depending on desired results (see longevity info above).
Will I need time to recover?
Bruising is possible, plan 2 weeks ahead of any special events or holidays.
Botox/Dysport
What is Botox and Dysport and how are they different?
Botox ®and Dysport® are prescription medicine made from a naturally occurring purified protein which relaxes muscles. They are used to treat and prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and deep facial furrows. By working beneath the surface, they help reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes the skin to appear wrinkled or folded.
Dysport is very similar to Botox – same price, same duration, but kicks in a little quicker.
When will I see results?
Results are visible within 24-48 hours and reach there peak 2 weeks post treatment.
How long do results last?
Results from Botox and Dysport are not permanent. Effects usually last about 3-4 months depending on treatment area.
How may treatments will I need?
Botox and Dysport will only need one single treatment to show results. However, results last about 3-4 months, therefore treatments can continue upon this timeline for as long as the patient desires.
Will I need time to recover?
Bruising is possible, plan 2 weeks ahead of any special events or holidays.
Profhilo
How does Profhilo work?
Profhilo spreads water-binding hyaluronic acid below the surface of the skin, it’s very hydrating and gives the appearance of an “injectable glow.”
Our bodies naturally produce hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, but we gradually lose it with age. Similarly, collagen and elastin, the protein fibers that provide structure and elasticity to the skin, break down and their production slows.
The high concentration and diffusion of hyaluronic acid within the dermis also trigger regenerative cells called fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin.
How many treatments will I need and what does the treatment involve?
Like other injectables, Profhilo is a relatively easy treatment that takes only about 15 minutes.
Profhilo is always injected in a standard pattern of five injection points, often referred to as bio-aesthetic points (BAP), on each side of the face. After each injection, you can expect a stinging sensation for up to 90 seconds as the substance gets situated in the skin.
You’re able to return to your daily activities immediately afterward.
For best results it is recommended to have 2 treatments 4-6 weeks apart.
When will I see the results?
Although Profhilo can quickly to hydrate the skin, its full effects don’t set in until about four to six weeks after the first treatment.
The two recommended monthly treatments 4 weeks apart align with the rate of cell turnover and you’ll benefit from increase in collagen and elastin for six months after your treatment but will vary for every person. We suggest maintenance sessions every once or twice a year.
Will I need time to recover?
Bumps that resemble bee stings at the injection points are both common and normal, and they should subside within 24 hours, as the product dissipates through the skin.
As with other injectable treatments, mild bruising may occur after the procedure, too, but should go away within a few days.
